Artist's Comments
"Joie de vivre", or "The Joy of Life" is a scultpural interpretation of Matisse's "La Dance". This was sculpted by Robert Woodbury, Laval Bergeron, and myself, Delayne Corbett(captain). Our team represented Canada in the International Snow Carving Competition in Quebec City. We won artists choice (all the participating snow sculptors voted on their favorite sculpture) for this abstract/cubist rendition of five people intwined, doing the dance of life. It stands 13 feet tall by 14 feet long by 18 feet wide. It was carved from a single block of snow and took 5 days to carve.
Just amazing--I'm really glad you got the artist's choice for this, but it deserves so much more. Is this the one you stayed up round the clock to finish? The results were well worth it--magnificent!
This really is a joyful piece, full of motion, and realising the scale makes it so much more... Yeeh, I need some better words
Tis a wonderful bit of work - congratulations to you and your team!

As I look at the photos, I see a lot of unresolved lines. The piece has a definite unfinished quality to it. You look at the piece and say, what else does this need?. When I ask that, I see lots. Which is what the judges saw.
It was amazing standing in the middle of the ring and looking up to see these beautiful monumental figures dancing. You became lost in the moment and the movement.

The idea of this contest is to set you up completely blind with a mythical being - from any world culture - and turn you loose to come up with a deviation based around it!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Lifehacker takes a look at the 5 Best online image editors. For those of you that don't use Photoshop, I highly suggest taking a look at this, as these apps allow you to edit your images in a browser window, and some are VERY powerful!
