Old Growth
Sand
12ft Tall
I created this sand sculpture at the 2012 Art Meets Sand International Sand Sculpting Competition in Helsinki Finland. It took 32 total hours to carve. The theme of the event was "Urban Nature". I reproduced iconic Helsinki architecture in this piece and morphed them into an old growth tree. My philosophy was that Finland is a large forest and Helsinki grew from it, and if Helsinki didn't exist, an old growth forest would be there today.
I won first place for this sculpture as well as Peoples Choice.
The judging also happened on my birthday, making it an absolutely wonderful day
